How can we manage dementia with Ayurveda?
Dementia is a condition characterized by loss of memory and impairment of other cognitive functions of the brain.
In Ayurveda this condition is addressed according to the causative factors and are treated according to the Dosha predominance.
Dementia occurs due to atrophic conditions of the brain during old-age as in Alzheimer’s comes under the Vata category. Likewise, the one that occurs as a result of excessive strain and emotional stress comes under this.
Pitha Dosha is addressed in dementia occurring due to excessive alcohol intake, drug abuse, and other conditions that lead to electrolyte imbalance in the body.
Kapha Dosha is addressed where Dementia is due to conditions like hypothyroidism, excessive sleep and sedentary lifestyle.
In other words, Dosha analysis is inevitable for effective treatment. Ayurvedic medicines like Brahmi caps Saraswata Ghrita and Ashwagandha Choornan can be prescribed according to the discretion of an Ayurvedic physician. Ayurvedic therapy like Sirodhara, Sirovasthi, Nasya are done under the supervision of an Ayurvedic physician.
